Kalidas Festival

Kalidas Festival Kalidas Festival is celebrated annually at Ramtek in Nagpur for two days in the month of November. Organized by MTDC in association with the District Collectorate Office of Nagpur in Ramtek, this festival of Music, Dance and Drama is held to honour Kalidasa. Kalidas was a great Sanskrit poet and dramatist of India, renowned for his historical drama Shakuntalam, Kumaarasambhava , Ritusamhaara and for the epic poem Meghdoot alias Meghdootam. It is said that the picturesque Ramtek has inspired Kalidas to write his famous literary work, Meghdootam. During Kalidas festival, celebrities of music, dance and drama gathered here to perform their talent. The festival brings back memories of the golden period of the Vidarbha region. People from different parts of India come here to attend the festival with full enthusiasm.

Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve

Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve It is Located in the Chandrapur district of Maharashtra which is 170km from Ramtek, the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve is one of India’s preeminent reserves. Its tropical dry deciduous forest ecosystem harbours at least 80 tigers, and there are over 200 tigers in the larger landscape. Pench Tiger reserve

Pench Tiger reserve Pench National Park is a national park is 45km away from Ramtek in Madhya Pradesh state, established in 1975 with an area of 257.26 km². It includes Pench Tiger Reserve and derives its name from the Pench River that flows through the park from north to south dividing the park into almost equal western and eastern halves, the well-forested areas of Seoni and Chhindwara districts respectively. It was declared a sanctuary in 1965, raised to the status of national park in 1975 and enlisted as a tiger reserve in 1992. Khindsi

Ram Sagar Khindsi In  the British rules then irrigation axperts joined the two hills with an earthan  dam in 1902.They arrested the water of ‘Kapila’ and ‘Sur’ river and a large fresh water dam was formed.18 surrounding villages got their land submerged in  this dam knowing ‘Ram Sagar’.The large amount  of water is ample to provide drinking water to Ramtek town and even supply water for irrigation upto Bhandara district. Number of fisherman get livelihood by fisheries in this fresh water.Recently the spot is also developed as a picnic point.The main wall of dam was built here a small village Khindsi hence it is also known as ‘Khindsi Dam’.And it’s large area upto ‘Gadmandir’ named it as ‘Ramsagar’.

Tilbhandeshwar The suffix ‘Shwar’ tells that it is a ‘Shivalaya’. Tilbhandeshawar  is also a Shivalaya built in Hemadpanthi style.Many years ago a tired passer by took rest at a barren abundant place.Next morning he was full of energy and his face had shining glow.On his insistence the people in the surrounding area removed the garbage to have a glimpse of this temple.The Shivlinga is highly remarkable and it is supposed to be growing bit by bit.Later the king made it into a stone  structure with intricate design.There are variety of  idols in and around the ‘Sabhamandap’. Siddha Narayan Tekdi This is sacred spot in Ramtek surrounding where the sun rays reaches at the earliest .The place has the shrine of ‘Narayana Swami’ who is supposed talk with devotees even today.The place has glorious tradition of sacrifice and devotion.One who stays undettered, undaunted even in odd circumstances should be consider as the ‘Saint’ in the real sense of the world.Its  not the job of any ordinary fellow.’ Rashtrasanth Tukadoji Maharaj’ continued the tradition of Narayan Swami.This is place where Tukadoji Maharaj stayed after receiving the spiritual knowledge. It is heard that he  wrote the ‘Bhajans’ with new style to create awareness among people.He would sing those awakening song on the rithem of ‘Khanjiri’.Tukadoji Maharaj enlighted the masses through folk language.He never went to school but demonstrated the highest spirit of education.No wonder his writing are included for syllabus of graduate and post graduate courses. Government of India and Govt. of Maharashtra unanimously accepted the proposal of naming Nagpur University ofter the name of Tukadoji Maharaj. Narayan Tekadi Ramtek bears the holy memories of that great saint.
